Yo Panino : Tailor Your Own Sandwich

Hello everyone,

I love Instagram. I do. I can devour myself in luscious food pictures and beautiful people. One day I spotted Wulan Guritno, one of Indonesia's famous celebrity ensemble a mouthwatering sandwich right on the stove. Later I found out that the sandwich place is called Yo Panino and it's so close to where I work. Located in Plaza Indonesian Extension, the decor is bright and colorful, slim chance that you will miss them when you pass by. Yo Panino is originally from Singapore, it's a place where you can tailor your own sandwich to suit your appetite.

Here are the steps :
1. Choose your sandwich and sides

There are so many types of sandwich you can select. Our orders that day was Grilled Chicken Sandwich (35K), Angry Prawns (63K), and Tuna Mayo (43K). You can make a combo by adding another 15K for value combo or 30K for premium combo. You will get selections of side dishes and drinks to go with your sandwich. Side dishes selections are Java Slaw (coleslaw with peanut sauce, I didn't like it), Fries, and Cookie. If you are not that hungry opt for the cookie!

2. Choose your bread
There are 4 types of bread : Multigrain, Turkish Pide, Brioche, Farmhouse Artisan.

I chose turkish pide which is chewy and flavorsome, while my friend  chose brioche which is a bit sweet and has very soft texture.

3. Choose you veggies

All veggies are free of charge so go ahead eat your greens!

4. Choose your sauce/dressing

5. Go ahead pay your sandwich and have a seat. They will bring your sandwich to you :)

And you can get a free cookie if you follow Yo Panino and mention them in your tweet! I got two cookies that day. My favorite is the almond cookie. It was so good! :) A fresh crisp cookie with the right amount of sweetness and a heavenly smell of cinnamon. LOVE. Maybe I'll go back for their cookies soon!

Will I come back? Yes, I want to try all the bread and cookies! Thanks for staying with me on this post. Till then :)

Jun Njan - Urban Kitchen Plaza Indonesia

Hello everyone,

Most of you must have already heard of Jun Njan, the famous chinese restaurant that has been around since 1956. Wow, if they have survived for more than 50 years in such a rough competition, they must serve good food that lure people to keep coming back. And today, my colleagues and I went to Jun Njan in Urban Kitchen at Plaza Indonesia to have lunch. I think the plus point about Urban Kitchen is the fact that they have many varieties of menus and the design of the this food court deserves a compliment. It has a vintage feeling which I like. The minus point is the circulation of the air/exhaust, you have to carefully pick your seat location otherwise you will smell like cooked food for the rest of the day :(

Now onto the food, we ordered the lunch package which already include rice, selections of meat, and iced/hot tea. Price is pretty affordable, ranging from 34K - 56K. This time we decided to order these menus:

Chicken with butter sauce (Ayam goreng saus mentega). One of Jun Njan classic. Crispy juicy chicken in butter sauce 38K.

Rice with roast duck (Nasi Bebek Panggang) 43K. Acceptable, my colleague finished everything.

Rice with black pepper beef. This one is pretty decent, cost around 49K.

This last one is one of my favorite. Rice with Jun Njan special tofu (38K). Yummy. And also in the picture is Anomali Coffee Blended drink "Banana Toffee" also one of my fave from Anomali.
Notes : Anomali coffee is having a buy 1 get 1 free promotion if you are a Mandiri card holder, valid until end of 2013.

Final Verdict : I think the lunch package from Jun Njan is affordable and a good value for money. The taste is decent although is not mind blowing. My favorites are the Jun Njan special squid and the special tofu. Do give them a visit! I hope you enjoy reading this post. Till then :)

Fish & Co : A Sea of Love

Hello everyone,

If  it's Monday, then it's Fish & Co day. Why? you might ask. Because every Monday, there is a buy 1 get 1 free promotion, that's why :)
This is how the promotion works. For any purchase of one main course, you are entitled to get one fish and chips menu for FREE. That's a good bargain. So, we went to the one in Entertainment Center or you may know as EX.

The restaurant is divided into two areas, one is outside (still inside the mall though) and the other one is inside. We chose the one in the outside, since the lighting is better and you can sit on the bench under the umbrella, just like sitting on the beach or a pool.

The promotion

The cute wooden placemat

The Menu

Ice Lemon Tea. Refillable. Priced at 25K.

The Seafood Platter for 1 : Squids, Prawns, Dory, Fries and some paella rice. Priced at 159K.

Japanese Fish and Chips with paella rice instead of fries. Priced at 89K.

Final verdict : I love their fish and chips. It's crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside without being too greasy (that's always a plus). So, I'm gonna make the most of the promotion while it last =D

*All price exclusive of tax and service.

Bogor Makan Trip : Street Food Fiesta

Hello everyone,

How are guys doing? Enjoying the Lebaran holiday I hope. I have one week of for Lebaran, but haven't had any fixed plan on where to go or what to do on my holiday. Yesterday I was blogging, and just out of my curiosity I checked the cctv on the highways going outside of Jakarta and it was empty. So without any delay, off we go. Bogor, here we come!! Yeay!

My favorite place to eat a lot of street food is along Jalan Suryakencana. We parked on the street side, and walk our way through the a stretch of many local goodness.

The first stop was this famous Wedang Ronde GG. Aut. This is one of the best wedang ronde I've ever had in my life. For those of you who never heard of wedang ronde before, ronde is glutinous ball with peanut and sugar as the filling, and wedang is the ginger and brown sugar soup which the ronde will come swimming in.

The prep station

The famous Wedang Ronde, perfect for a rainy day. Each cost 7K.
Sagu Rangi, It's basically diced taro and soaked in sweet brown sugar soup that is thickened by some flour. Cost at 7K also.

Our second stop is this snack shop, where you can stock up on any traditional snack you can think of. There are many kinds of chips, crackers, mochi, cookies, kropok, moon cake, anything, you name it.

The third stop is this famous ngohiang. Ngohiang is pork meat dipped in a special mixed flour and deep fired until golden brown. Ngohiang then will served with a thick brown savory sauce, some tofu, and potatoes. Yummy!!

The Menu

The inside of this humble restaurant
The famous Ngohiang. Priced at 39K. It is quite expensive. But hey, it's legendary.
Sotomie Bakut my mom bought from next door shop. It's called Sotomie Agih. It's really good. I would definitely recommend this. Priced at 27K.
Lumpia basah khas bogor, It's like a spring roll, minus the frying session. The filling has egg, bean sprout. Priced at 9K.

After Suryakencana, we visit the famous Venus Bakery for their tiny bite size bread. I don't know why, but I find Venus bread not as good as they were many years ago. Maybe it's just me.

Well, that's all folks! Bogor is a short trip away from Jakarta, about 40KM. If you have time to kill, and don't really know where to go, go to Bogor. It's a pretty nice place to get out of your weekly trip to the mall. And the food is good and so affordable. There are many other places for good food. I will list down below with my personal opinion of the food :) Enjoy.

More on Jalan Suryakencana :
1. Nasi Goreng Goan Tjo : Good nasi goreng
2. Soto Pak Salam (opens at 5PM)
3. Sate Sapi Pak OO (share a stall with Nasi Goreng Goan Tjo)
4. Combro GG Aut ( in front De' Paris Bakery)

Jalan Jendral Sudirman :
1. Bakery Bogor Permai (traditonal bakery) many local snacks.
2. Toge Goreng Bogor and Siomay (just outside bakery Bogor Permai)
3. Bakmi Sahabat : famous for their yamien (noodle)

Cafe & Restaurant :
1. De'Leuit at Jl. Pajajaran : serves sundanese

There are many more places to eat actually. But those are my favorites so far. If you have any other place you love, please leave comment. The box below is all yours =D

Best Affordable Lamian in Town : Imperial Lamian

Hello everyone,

As a regular customer at Grand Indonesia, I was happy when Imperial Lamian decided to open their second restaurant in that mall. I always go to the one in Alam Sutera Flavor Bliss, but it's really far away from where I live. I love the food at Imperial, not only that it is affordable, but most of the menu are really tasty and non pretentious.

The place was only opened for a couple of weeks now, but I already went there for 4 times haha. On average I spent around 50-75K per visit and I went home with a full and happy time every time.

The design of the restaurant is really simple and and they put a lot of plastic trees inside the restaurant. It has two open kitchen for Lamian and dimsum. Beside lamian and dimsum, they also serve other typical chinese food such as fried rice, seafood menus, and dessert. Just for a note, the food is non halal in this restaurant.
And they always have promotion on different menus every week with 30-50% OFF! Not bad :)

So, here is some of the food I had during my few visits to Imperial, enjoy!

Ca Jiang Lamian Pork 25K (on promo, normally 30K) and some BBQ Pork Platter 58K

Char Siu Lamian 35K

This is my current fave, Salted Fish Fried Rice. Cost only 24K :)

Pig Ears in braised soy sauce. Priced at 29K

Forgot the name of this dish. But basically it's pork meat rolled in beancurd skin. Yumm!! Priced around 20K

Cakwee Seafood with mayo sauce. Priced at 20K

Shiau May. Priced at 9K. This was on a promotion that week :)

And now they are giving free snow ice for any customer who follow their tweeter and tweeted about Imperial Lamian on their tweeter account. And that's exactly what I did haha.

I got this snow ice for free!! Woohoo!!
